It’s a Peppermint Shrimp Party
Our one lonely peppermint shrimp was always hiding in the rocks so we got a few more. Now there are three and they are all over the tank! They are definitely social and happier in a group of more than one!
The Nemo Experiment
Since we lost our Mickey clownfish we were aching to get another clown. We were of course very hesitant because of the stress a new fish can create in a peaceful reef but we tried it anyways. It was a total #FAIL.
Not to worry, little Nemo clown went back to the fish store in good health…
Bubble Coral
Our Scarlett Hermit Crabs did not accept this bubble coral into our reef, they killed it within a few days : (
RIP Mickey
One of the hardest losses on the Kaizen Reef yet. Mickey our beloved little clownfish died on Monday, October 11, 2010 – Thanksgiving Day.
We added Mickey and Mallory when they were just little baby clownfish on September 13, 2009. We watched them grow their markings, develop and got to know their unique personalities. They have always stayed at the top of the tank behind our biological filtration and skimmer, never having bonded with an anemone, they lived behind the equipment as surrogate protection.
The hardest part of this loss is that Mickey was a very healthy, happy fish and died unnecessarily. I couldn’t find him in the aquarium and then saw him behind the tank on the floor lifeless. I tried to put him back in the tank to see if he still had a chance but it was too late for him.
Mickey will be missed greatly, still hard to accept that he is no longer with us, losing pets is very difficult.
