Google Now Counts Site Speed as a Ranking Factor

Well, it’s official: Google now counts site speed as a ranking factor (article here). So what does that mean for you and your website?

You need to ensure that your website is loading in a quick and appropriate time so Google’s search engine bots don’t penalize your pages for loading too slowly.

There are several things we can do to help your website load fast such as creating and maintaining optimal coding standards, optimizing pictures to their smallest file sizes and keeping the website code clean and concise.

Not sure how your website speed measures up? Get in touch with us and we will run a diagnostic tool on your site to assess if it is loading in a timely manner.

Increase Traffic to Your Website

A few of our clients have been asking the same question lately: How do I get more leads to find my website? To follow up with last months advice about increasing your inbound links this month we will look at increasing your traffic to your website by expanding it’s exposure.

You absolutely must advertise your website address / domain name. There are many ways to do this, some cost money and some are free. Here are some ideas to get you started:

Free ways to promote your website:

  • Set your primary email address to name@yourwebsite.com (example: info@kaizenwebdesign.com)
  • Add your website and email address to all your online profiles
  • Make sure your website is listed on your business cards
  • Your website should be on all stationery like letterhead, invoices and fax cover sheets
  • Set your email signature to include your website address
  • Add your website to all your promotional items: flyers, brochures, pamphlets, t-shirts, etc.

Other ways to promote your website:

  • Advertise in local newspapers, yellow pages and directories
  • Google advertising
  • Web marketing pay per click advertising
  • Radio advertising

No matter what avenues you choose it is very important to create as much promotion and exposure for your website as possible. This is also why it is important to have a great website address which is easy to remember and associates well with your business.

If you need to increase the advertising and promotion of your website domain then we want to help! We can also help you find a great domain name and register it for you too!

What is a Web Browser?

We came across this video created by Google and realized that a lot of you may not understand exactly what a web browser technically is… for those of you that do you can probably skip this article.

We often discuss the importance of trying out different web browsers on your computer without considering that you may not understand what it all means. Your web browser is a program on your computer just like Microsoft Word or Outlook and within the browser you can use search engines like Google.

Here is a great article with a video to check out for more information on understanding what your web browser is and how it works.

As a web developer we primarily use Firefox because we can download and use a plethora of extensions that help us do our jobs. When designing and setting up websites we check the cross browser compatibility in Internet Explorer, Chrome and Firefox to make sure the website displays properly for all users across the web.

If you would like more info about web browsers or have any questions about how to ensure your businesses website is cross browser compatible please contact us.

Increase Traffic to Your Website

A few of our clients have been asking us the same question lately: How do I get more leads to find my website? We have provided those that have asked with so much information that they felt totally overloaded by the options!

Let’s explore one thing you can do to increase traffic to your website: INCREASE YOUR INBOUND LINKS!

There are so many things you can do to increase your website’s inbound links but first let’s explore what that means to you and your business.

Throughout the ever expanding internet there are literally millions of websites filled with links and information. Your goal (should you choose to accept it) is to get as many of those websites linking to your website as possible. You can include a descriptive title with your link and sometimes even include a brief summary as well.

All those links out there will drive more traffic to your website because a) people will click on those links and b) the search engines (like Google) will increase your website’s ranking and relevancy with the more inbound links you can create to your website!

With millions of websites out there where do you start? I suggest starting with networking / social media websites such as Facebook, Linkedin, Twitter and Zoom. Simply start by adding profiles and group pages for you and your company linking to your website.

Business directories are also a great resource for adding your company’s profile and with a simple Google search you can even find directories specifically for your industry.

If you don’t feel comfortable setting up your own profiles and inbound links or simply do not have the time please contact us and we can discuss how our team can help you increase the inbound links to your website.

Why does my Business Need a Website?

Great logos from Kaizen Web Design

When you get a logo from Kaizen Web Design you get a vector logo – not just a raster bitmap file.

Many businesses may have a professionally designed logo, but unfortunately the designer only provided them with the raster files which are OK for using in something like a Word document, but do not work out very well for anything else, such as the website, business cards, print promotional materials etc.

The reason that you need to make sure you receive a vector version of your logo from your designer as opposed to a .jpg logo created using pixels is that vector logos can be increased or reduced to any size while still maintaining crystal clarity. Whether you want your logo displayed on stationery, a poster, a billboard, store signage, company vehicle, packaging, etc. A vector logo is the way to go, and Kaizen Web Design specializes in creating beautiful logos for a wide range of clients across the globe.
