Publilius

Anyone can steer the ship when the sea is calm.
-Publilius Syrus*

*Publilius (less correctly Publius) Syrus, a Latin writer of maxims, flourished in the 1st century BCE. He was an Assyrian who was brought as a slave to Italy, but by his wit and talent he won the favor of his master, who freed and educated him.
His mimes, in which he acted himself, had a great success in the provincial towns of Italy and at the games given by Caesar in 46 BC. Publilius was perhaps even more famous as an improviser, and received from Caesar himself the prize in a contest in which he vanquished all his competitors, including the celebrated Decimus Laberius

Cockroaches of the Internet

SPAM. I wasn’t a fan of the mysterious meat mixture and I hate the online version. I liked Monty Python’s take though. I thought today that spammers were the cockroaches of the Internet, and it really makes sense. Today’s post is about the similarities between spammers and cockroaches.

1. Firstly they’ve both been around since the beginning of time in each others respective medium.
2. They are extremely difficult to exterminate (cockroaches can actually live for a month with no head while spammers get their servers shut down all the time and continue to thrive)
3. They breed at insane speeds, taking over their environment.

Seriously though, advertising works so much better if it’s done on a relationship basis, where the recipient has given their consent to receive advertising that will definitely interest them and result in almost guaranteed sales.

Anyway, I don’t have a solution or anything, I’m just bitching.

Goals

The greatest danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it.
Michelangelo

Opportunity
